Home Entertainment Anywhere You Want
Empathy Lab recently completed development of UVVU.com – the gateway site for the new UltravioletTM service created by the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE).
The DECE is an open, cross-industry consortium consisting of approximately 75 companies, including many of the world's leading movie studios, technology providers, consumer device makers and entertainment retailers. These companies have joined together to facilitate the development and operation of UltraViolet™ – a groundbreaking media ecosystem delivering a new and compelling way to collect and enjoy home video entertainment.
The launch of the UVVU.com site represents the first major consumer-facing site for UltraViolet. It presents and explains the UltraViolet concept to consumers, lets them know what movies & TV shows are available with UltraViolet rights, and help them find where they can buy UltraViolet content as well as UltraViolet-compatible applications and devices which can play downloaded UltraViolet files (note: streaming and physical media are additional important parts of UltraViolet’s consumer usage model).
In addition to this consumer-facing informational site, Empathy Lab has also been working with DECE and Neustar, Inc. (operator of DECE’s Account Management & Digital Rights Locker system) to design the user experiences for registered users of the UltraViolet service. These experiences and functions are now available via UVVU.com and also within the online offerings of participating UltraViolet retailers and streaming providers. The release of “Horrible Bosses” from Warner Brothers on October 11th marks the first UltraViolet release and represents the beginning of UltraViolet debuts planned for later this year and next year from major studios including Sony, Universal, Paramount, Lionsgate and Fox.
