Empathy Lab is proud to announce their partnership with the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Usability Professionals’ Association for the 7th Annual World Usability Day (WUD).
World Usability Day is held annually the second Thursday of November by usability professionals’ organizations across the globe. The Empathy Lab-sponsored event will be held from 6 – 8:30 p.m. on November 10th at International House Philadelphia.
Patrick Marsceill, Senior Information Architect for Empathy Lab, will speak on the topic of designing for donor personas, with a live usability test and demonstration of a new face-to-face fundraising application. His presentation will incorporate Empathy Lab’s learnings while designing new online donation experiences for the American Red Cross, including specific differences in designing for traditional ecommerce vs. philanthropic donations online, and an exploration of key design concepts and how page level decisions relate to donor needs, expectations and behaviors. The methodology is based on advocacy as a very personal engagement, unique to both the specific organization and to each donor.
“Partnering with the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Usability Professionals’ Association is a phenomenal opportunity for Empathy Lab to share some of the meaningful and authentic experiences we’ve created for our clients, but more importantly, it allows us to put those experiences in perspective with what’s happening across the globe,” said Kevin Labick, CEO of Empathy Lab. “Our work with the American Red Cross has challenged us to take an empathetic approach to design in order to help people give and get involved. It’s rare that we have such an opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life, and we don’t take it for granted.”
The focus of this year’s WUD event is Design for Social Impact. Additional discussions will be held around innovative ways design choices can result in a broader social impact, including the areas of home healthcare, international business and civic engagement. The approach to usability throughout the world is impacted by design when the intentional outcome is sparking change in how people behave, communicate, and do things.
“Empathy Lab has a great reputation for its innovative services and will be able to share with the attendees their unique perspective on how an empathic, donor-focused approach to developing philanthropic software can motivate people to give and get involved. We’re honored Empathy Lab has joined as an event partner this year.” said Dorothy M. Danforth, President of the Delaware Valley UPA.
Each year, World Usability Day focuses in on a specific topic and is honored around the world. More than 40,000 people in 140 cities in 44 countries participated in World Usability Day 2010. This year, the Delaware Valley’s regional event was chosen as one of two U.S. Event Partners to be showcased by the international effort.
Admission to the Philadelphia World Usability Day event on November 10th is free but space is limited. Make your reservation now.
